“Last night as I was sleeping, I dreamt —
O, marvelous error —
That there was a beehive here inside my heart
And the golden bees were making white combs
And sweet honey from all my failures.”
― Antonio Machado
This is a rich and exciting neighbourhood project: thanks to all the members of the nine households who are part of the corridor who participated on planting day and are continuing to care for it.
Particular thanks to Sarah, Nik, and Kim for advance planning and for website and social media maintenance.
We would also like to acknowledge the support of
Greenest City, our trustee, a Toronto non-profit that builds healthy, inclusive neighbourhoods through environmental education and empowerment;
Nicole Chen and Freya Safiyeh, artists at Parkdale Collegiate Institute, who did the artwork for our sign with support from Ms. Renata Lebovits;
Miyuki Fukuma for sign layout consultation;
David Morales, who is making a brief film about the project;
The University Health Network, owners of the property and project supporter;
most importantly, PollinateTO, staffed by Annemarie Baynton, for initial funding and ongoing education and support.
Materials were purchased from:
Native Plant Nurseries, who showed immense patience and thoroughness through our multiple complex orders,
Craig Lambie at WarmanWood, who crafted our beautiful plant identification sticks,
James Ho at A-Sharp Signs who was very helpful and thorough in producing our garden sign,
Parkdale Home Hardware, who have been providing members of our group with excellent service for over 25 years.
